I am always circumspect about books involving artists as protagonist because I find they so often uphold a notion of the singular genius, a myth that feels less and less believable. Septology certainly does that too but its form is so beautiful and spare, as Asle, a painter relives fragments of his life and how it happened how it did. I text my friend about this book, the form is totally liturgical, and the plain and repeated language (like prayer, words for everyone) hold so much meaning and feeling.
